Why a lodge

What a lodge night changes

Same river, same rapids, a bed at the end of the day.

Less to carry and set up. A lodge night means no tent to pitch. For first timers who are unsure about camping, a lodge trip or a mixed trip is an easy start.

The Rogue has the most choice. Of the 18 Rogue outfitters we compare, 13 offer lodge nights in some form, from lodge only trips with ROW to one lodge night on Ouzel's 4 day trip.

It costs more. Tributary lists its 3 day, 2 night Rogue lodge trip at $1,645 against $1,400 for its 4 day camping trip (2026), and ROW's 3 day lodge trip lists $1,890 (2027).

Seasons differ. Western runs Rogue lodge trips from May to August and camping trips in September and October.

How to choose

How to choose a lodge trip

Questions

River lodge trip questions

What is a river lodge trip?

A guided overnight rafting trip that sleeps in riverside lodges instead of tents, or mixes lodge nights with camp nights. On the rivers we compare, they run on the Rogue, the Upper Klamath and the Main Salmon.

Which rivers have lodge trips?

The Rogue has the most: 13 outfitters offer lodge nights. Indigo Creek's Hell's Corner overnight on the Upper Klamath spends its night at a lodge, and Mountain River Outfitters includes one night at China Bar Lodge on its Main Salmon trips.

Can I sleep in a bed every night?

Yes, on some Rogue trips. ROW runs lodge trips only, and Western runs lodge trips from May to August. Orange Torpedo, Momentum and Tributary run 3 day, 2 night lodge trips.

How much does a Rogue River lodge trip cost?

Tributary lists its 3 day, 2 night lodge trip at $1,645 and ROW lists $1,890 for 3 days, 2 nights (2027). Camping trips start lower: Tributary's 4 day camping trip is $1,400 (2026).

Which lodges are on the Rogue?

The BLM lists Black Bar, Marial, Paradise, Clay Hill and Illahe lodges along the Wild section, from 8.8 to 34.6 miles below Grave Creek.

Can kids go on a lodge trip?

Usually, yes. Most Rogue lodge outfitters set 6 or 7. Indigo Creek's Upper Klamath lodge trip sets 14, and Arrowhead's specialty lodge trip is for adults 18 and over.

Do I need a permit?

No. The outfitter holds the permit. The Rogue and the Main Salmon ration private trips by lottery, and a guided trip skips it. See the lottery calendar.

Is a lodge trip less of an adventure?

The river is the same: lodge trips on the Rogue run the same Class III+ Wild section as camping trips. The difference is where you sleep.
